Abo Akademi University, founded in 1918 by private donations, is the only Swedish-language multidisciplinary academic university in Turku, Finland. Being the 3rd university in Finland, Abo Akademi was turned into a public institution after 1981. As the sole multilingual Swedish multi-faculty university outside Sweden and therefore, the only one in Finland, Åbo Akademi University provides higher education to a large ratio of Swedish-speaking folk. Campuses of Abo Akademi University are in the oldest city towns of Turku and Vassa, the Best student cities in Finland, which offer a safe and secure study environment. The Turku campus comprises the faculty of Arts, Psychology and Theology, Science and Engineering, Social Sciences, Business, and Economics. Under the accreditation of the Ministry of Education and Culture Finland, programs offered at Abo Akademi University include around 25 Bachelor’s, 30+ Master’s, and 14 Doctoral programs in the four faculties. All programs offered by Åbo Akademi University are Swedish, for which a student must prove Swedish proficiency. On the other hand, the university offers around 15 international Master programs and other foreign language courses. The academic year at Abo Akademi University begins in August, ends in July, and is split into the autumn and spring term.
