Previously, it was known as the Arts University College at Bournemouth and the Arts Institute at Bournemouth. It is also where Bournemouth Film School is located. With AECC University College being smaller and Bournemouth University being significantly larger, AUB is the second-largest university in Bournemouth and Poole. In the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework, a government evaluation of the standard of undergraduate instruction in English universities and other higher education institutions, the university received a gold rating. The institution only has one campus, which is located in Bournemouth, a coastal town in the south. There are 19 structures on the 3.7-hectare complex, including studios, galleries, and specialized workshops. About 450 students are housed by the university at three locations spread throughout Bournemouth, with preference given to international students and those with disabilities or medical issues.
