Athlone Regional Technical College
Under the local Vocational Education Committee's control, the Irish Government established Athlone Institute of Technology in 1970 as Athlone Regional Technical College. The college acquired an art gallery in 1975. Later, with the implementation of the Federal Technical Colleges Act 1992, the institute gained further autonomy.
Like the other RTCs, it was renamed the Athlone Institute of Technology or AIT in late 1997. The Athlone Institute Technology, one of the best universities in Ireland for international students, operates on just one campus. It is right in the heart of Ireland. The building is built on 18 hectares, comprising every facility a student may need.
