Originally the Carleton College, Carleton University was established in 1942 for veterans of WWII. The college obtained university-level status in 1952 through a charter from the provincial government. Moreover, taking its name after Carleton County, the university educates over 30,000 students in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. In 1946, the university awarded its degrees to its first batch of six students.
