Following the Robbins Report, it got its royal charter in 1966, along with a number of other organizations. Bath's history has its roots in the Merchant Venturers' Technical College, which began as a school in Bristol in 1595 by the Society of Merchant Venturers, together with the Universities of Bristol and the West of England.
The university's main campus was purpose-built, created starting in 1964 in the modernist style of the time, and is running on Claverton Down, a position overlooking the UNESCO World Heritage city of Bath. Campus Details
The main campus of the institution is on Claverton Down, which is around 1.5 miles from Bath's city center. The site is small; a fifteen-minute stroll will get you from one end to the other. The Parade, a raised central roadway, was created to separate automotive and pedestrian traffic, with the former traveling on the ground floors. Student dormitories erected on tower blocks would rise from the main thoroughfare as buildings lined the parade.
