University of Derby History

Originally the Derby Diocesan Institution, the University of Derby was established in 1856 as a teacher's training college. The institution became the Derby School of Art and Technical Institution in 1885 and later a municipal college. Moreover, in 1992, the college officially became a university, becoming the only higher education school to do so in England.
