Originally the Wolverhampton Tradesmen's and Mechanics' Institute, the University of Wolverhampton was founded in 1827 as an evening classes school. Teaching at the school began in 1851 with art as its focus. Moreover, till the early 1900s, the institute educated over 1,300 students. In addition, the institute grew its campuses in 1931 and 1963.
