Originally the Evangelical Lutheran Seminary, Wilfrid Laurier University Canada was established in 1911 in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. In 1914, the school inaugurated new courses and became the Waterloo College School. In addition to becoming the Waterloo College of Arts in 1924, the college became affiliated with Western Ontario Institute in 1925. Moreover, the college finally changed its name to Wilfrid Laurier University in 1973 by a provincial law. The late 20th century saw the university open a new campus in Brantford.
