About
Japan's education system is globally known for its high academic standards, innovative teaching methods, and focus on discipline and critical thinking. Japan has 780 universities, out of which, the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, and Osaka University fall under the top 100 universities globally.
Japan invests around 3.6% of its GDP into research and development every year and that’s one of the highest in the world. This dedication to R&D is evident in the STEM fields, where Japan has made its mark as a global leader.
Another distinctive feature of Japan’s education system is its rigorous admission process. Entrance exams are highly competitive and once admitted, students benefit from small class sizes, personalized attention from professors, and access to state-of-the-art facilities. As of 2022, there were over 240,000 international students studying in Japan, a number that has been steadily increasing due to the country’s welcoming policies and high-quality education.
